Ignacio Ariel Begue es un niño uruguayo de diez años (2012). Es el más joven de la familia y nació con síndrome de Down. Concretamente, el par de cromosomas número 21 sufrió una alteración y dejó de ser parejo. A partir de ese entonces, las diferencias serán por y en base a desconocimiento y prejuicios.
El síndrome de Down es la principal causa de discapacidad intelectual y la alteración genética humana más frecuente. En el mundo, se estima que hay un total de seis millones de personas con esta discapacidad. Los cálculos indican que entre el 30% y el 40% de las personas con discapacidad intelectual tienen Síndrome de Down. No es una enfermedad y no hay grados asociados al síndrome, pero el efecto que produce la presencia de esta alteración en cada persona es muy variable.

Down syndrome is the main cause of intellectual disability and the most frequent human genetic alteration. Worldwide, it is estimated that there are a total of six million people with this disability. Estimates indicate that between 30% and 40% of persons with intellectual disabilities have Down syndrome.
